Beautiful Things Needn't Be Complicated
Good ingredients. Thoughtful formulations.
I have a pretty finely tuned BS meter, especially when it comes to the skincare industry.
Miracle creams. Age-reversing serums. Exotic ingredients promising results that sound suspiciously like a facelift in a bottle. There is an extraordinary amount of noise out there, and not nearly enough useful information.
I'm a farmer, a maker, and an educator with a doctorate in education focused on how adults learn. I believe people make better decisions when they understand what they're buying and why it works. That's the thinking behind this page.
Here's what I believe matters most for healthy-looking skin:
Drink water. Get your sleep. Protect yourself from the sun.
Not gallons of water. Just enough to stay properly hydrated. Not a complicated nighttime ritual. Just consistently good sleep. And when it comes to preserving your skin's appearance over time, protecting it from excessive sun exposure is one of the most effective things you can do.
That's why you'll usually find me working on the farm in long sleeves and a hat. I also use Daily Defense, our zinc-based skin cream, as part of my daily routine.
And the rest? My skin is getting older, and it's dry. I don't expect a jar of cream to reverse time. I do expect it to help my skin retain moisture, feel comfortable, look smoother, and stay soft.
That's what I make products to do.
Some topical ingredients have impressive research behind them. Others have more modest but perfectly useful benefits. And some ingredients are included because they smell wonderful or make a product more enjoyable to use.
I think you deserve to know the difference.
