Our ingredients
What each thing is, and why it is in the jar. No hiding behind “natural” or “clean”.
- Bakuchioil
- Plant-derived aromatic compound. Chemical Structure: Unlike retinoids, which are derived from vitamin A, bakuchiol is a meroterpene phenol that has a distinct molecular makeup. However, it activates similar anti-aging gene pathways.
- Why we use it: Investigated for signs of photoaging or anti-aging by stimulating collagen production and boosts cellular turnover. Even skin tone and serves as an antioxidant fighting free radicals and oxidative stress to protect the skin barrier. Found in Night Shift
- Chamomile
- Finely milled flower from the chamomile plant.
- Why we use it: Softens the texture under your fingers and gives a faint natural colour. It is there for the feel and the look, not as an active. Found in Buff it Up
- Colloidal Oatmeal
- Oats milled to a very fine powder that disperses in water.
- Why we use it: Keeps a clay mask feeling soft rather than tight, so your skin is comfortable while you wear it. Found in Buff it Up
- French Green Clay
- A mineral clay, naturally green from decomposed plant matter and iron oxides. Found in French Green Clay Soap.
- Why we use it: Absorbs the oil sitting on the surface, so your skin looks matte and feels clean without drying out your delicate facial skin.
- Grass-fed Tallow
- Rendered fat from grass-fed cattle, solid at room temperature and rich in the same fatty acids found in skin's own surface lipids. Found in Dial it Back, Daily Defense and all our Tallow Whips.
- Why we use it: Melts on contact with warm skin and leaves it feeling cushioned and soft. Once it has sunk in, there is no greasy film left. Beef tallow in skincare primarily functions as a heavy emollient and occlusive, backed by basic lipid composition and limited scoping reviews rather than robust, controlled human clinical trials.
- Jojoba Oil
- A liquid wax ester pressed from the seed of the jojoba shrub — chemically a wax rather than an oil. Found in our Dial it Back and all our Tallow Whips
- Why we use it: Makes a heavy balm spread easily under your fingers, so it sinks in instead of sitting on top of your skin. Jojoba oil is not a true triglyceride oil; it is composed of long-chain liquid wax esters that closely mimic human sebum
- Kaolin
- A soft white clay, the gentlest of the cosmetic clays. Found in Buff it Up
- Why we use it: Gives a mask enough body to stay where you put it, without leaving your skin feeling tight.
- Mango Butter
- Mango butter fat from mango seed kernels. Found in our Dial It Back face cream.
- Why we use it: Mango butter effective plant-based emollient, barrier-repair agent, and antioxidant in topical formulations. Softens skin and gives our Dial it Back face cream structure so that it can absorb overnight.
- Meadowfoam Seed Oil
- Meadowfoam seed oil (Limnanthes alba) is a cold-pressed botanical lipid backed by unique long-chain fatty acid chemistry that acts as a biocompatible emollient and barrier-repair agent in skincare. Found in our Dial it Back face cream and In Your Face serum.
- Why we use it: Adds slip, so it spreads smoothly rather than dragging. It also helps the jar you have open stay fresh-feeling for longer.
- Mixed Tocopherols
- A natural vitamin E complex.
- Why we use it: An antioxidant for the oils rather than for your skin: it keeps them from turning, so the last of the jar smells and feels like the first. Found in all our oil based products.
- Niacinamide - Actives and Antioxidents
- Water-soluble form of vitamin B3
- Why we use it: Can support barrier and improve uneven tone in suitable formulas. Found in First Light Serum
- Non-Nano Zinc Oxide
- Mineral zinc oxide powder. Actives and Antioxidents.
- Why we use it: Adds opacity and barrier feel plus UV protection but please note, we DO NOT lab test for SPF. Found in Daily Defense.
- Pomegranate Oil
- Oil from pomegranate seeds and a skin-conditioning emollient. Found in our In Your Face serum.
- Why we use it: Pomegranate seed oil is backed by pre-clinical and clinical research showing it supports skin barrier function, fights oxidative stress, and calms inflammation through unique bioactive components.
- Sea Buckthorn Oil
- An emollient, sea buckthorn is an oil from sea buckthorn fruit or seed.
- Why we use it: Sea buckthorn oil (Hippophae rhamnoides) is backed by research showing it supports skin barrier repair, reduces inflammation, and protects against ultraviolet (UV) radiation damage. Found in our In Your Face serum.
- Squalane
- Squalane is the saturated, hydrogenated form of squalene, a natural lipid that makes up roughly 10% to 12% of human sebum. Found in our Dial it Back face cream and In Your Face serum.
- Why we use it: Squalane sits so lightly you will barely notice it while it softens your skin without leaving a shine.
